2023 Comprehensive Plan Development History
In 2021 the Village of Sugar Grove entered into an agreement with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) for the purpose of preparing a new, updated Comprehensive Plan to provide long-range recommendations for future growth and development, as well as the maintenance and enhancement of the character of the community.
To ensure the new Plan reflected the community’s wants and needs, engagement opportunities were built into the schedule to allow for public input and feedback. At the beginning resident volunteers were appointed to serve on the Community Steering Committee, an advisory board charged with guiding the process and building consensus around a comprehensive strategy for Sugar Grove’s future with a particular emphasis on economic, social and environmental sustainability. This committee, comprised of twelve residents, met several times to review existing conditions in the Village, guide public surveys and community engagement strategies, and review key recommendations to guide the Plan development. In addition to this volunteer committee, community engagement opportunities were offered through two workshops and two community surveys with the two surveys generating 1,235 responses while the workshops drew 40 participants.
Building on the review of prior planning work, conversations with a diverse mix of community stakeholders and engagement with the community through the surveys and workshops, the consultant and Steering Committee synthesized the priorities heard from the community into a vision and a set of themes, recommendations, and strategies.
