Permit Center
Permits are required for most improvements and alterations to structures and property. The most common permits are listed under the Residential and Commercial Permit forms. Although your project or work type may not be on the list, a permit may still be required. Please contact our office to determine if a permit is required. The permit office is located at the Public Works Facility, 601 Heartland Drive, Sugar Grove, IL 60554, 630-391-7220.
Effective May 1, 2026, the Village will adopt the 2021 International Residential Code, Building Code, Fire Code, Mechanical Code, Property Maintenance Code, Swimming Pool & Spa Code, Fuel Gas Code, Illinois State Mandated Code for Electric Vehicle Charging Act, and the 2020 National Electrical Code, including all amendments. Additionally, the current 2014 State of Illinois Plumbing Code, 2018 Illinois Accessibility Code, 2021 NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, 2021 International Existing Building Code, Gas Leak Detector Bill, Smoke Detector Act, Fuel Gas Detector and Alarm Act, 2021 International Solar Energy Provision, and 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (which is currently being codified) have been adopted.

The building permit application short form can be used for all permits except a new building (commercial or residential). Please use the application new building for new buildings or large projects with many subcontractors. A Fox Metro permit is required prior to any new building, commercial remodel or addition permit being issued. You may reach them at 630-301-6882 or email at submittals@foxmetro.org. When your permit review is complete, you will be sent the permit terms and conditions for agreement via e-mail. Once a statement of agreement is received, payment can be made through our website with a debit or credit card (3.25% transaction fee will apply). Check or cash is also accepted through mail or in person. Upon payment, the permit will be issued and can be emailed to you.
To insure the timely processing of your permit please be sure to review all permit specific requirements through the links below prior to applying for a permit to insure that all information is complete. All contractors performing work in the Village must be registered prior to permit issuance.
Inspections can be scheduled over the phone or via e-mail by 3:30 pm the day prior. Please include the type of inspection, address, date desired and AM or PM, also your name and phone number. All Inspections will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.
Allowable hours for construction noise within the Village are 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily.
A maximum cap of $17,850.00 on new home permit fees was
adopted April 15, 2025 and shall remain in effect until April 30, 2026.
