The sold-out breakfast was moderated by Jonathan Meagher, Vice Chairman of the Sugar Grove EDC and General Manager of Rich Harvest Farms. It also featured remarks by Waubonsee Community College President Dr. Brian Knetl and brought together over 150 residents, local business owners, elected officials, investors, and stakeholders.
Key highlights and accomplishments include:
- Celebrating Success: President Konen showcased notable wins from the past 12 months, including a historic 0% property tax increase, the arrival of new dining destinations like Burnt Barrel and Primos Tacos, strategic staff additions, advancements in the Commercial Property Enhancement Program, and collaborative efforts to bolster public safety like the placement of a new school resource officer at Harter Middle School.
- Growing Opportunities: The Village is moving closer toward its vision of being a community where residents can get everything they need right here, with new additions like Starbucks, Cold Stone Creamery, and Cilantro Taco Grill coming soon.
- Driving Force: Sugar Grove’s driving force for the future is Connection, which includes linking residents with businesses, collaborating across governmental bodies, supporting education and recreation, fostering non-profit partnerships, nurturing community connections, organizing community events, and recognizing the power of collective impact over individual efforts.
- Investments in Infrastructure: Updates on new infrastructure projects in the community, including a new pedestrian bridge and crosswalk at IL Route 30 to enhance connectivity and safety within the Village.
- Updates on Crown Community Development: President Konen also shared more about the Village's ongoing work with Crown Community Development, emphasizing that it’s more than new restaurants, shopping, and opportunities to gather; it's about economic stability, diversifying our tax base, attracting even more businesses, and enhancing support for essential community services.

Upcoming Resurfacing & Minor Concrete Work
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs to the bridge carrying U.S. 30 (Illinois 56) over Illinois 47 (U.S. 30), in Sugar Grove, is scheduled to begin, weather permitting, Monday, Aug. 17. Throughout the project, the following closures will be required to complete the work. U.S. 30 The right lane on eastbound U.S. 30 will be closed over the bridge. The eastbound U.S. 30 ramp to northbound Illinois 47 will be closed. A detour will direct traffic to Illinois 56 and Galena Boulevard to access Illinois 47. Illinois 47 The left lane on southbound Illinois 47 will be closed. The public can also expect various intermittent daytime lane closures on northbound Illinois 47, at least one northbound lane will remain open during construction. Additionally, later this month, a full closure of the northbound lanes on Illinois 47 will be required to install steel beams over the road. The schedule and impacts to traffic will be shared closer to the closure date. The repairs are expected to be completed in September. The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment. To ensure enough water for drinking, bathing, and fire protection this summer, all residents must comply with the village's water conservation ordinance. Watering to establish sod or seeded turf lawns is prohibited from July 1 to August 31. Water Conservation Guidelines: Even-numbered addresses may water on even dates from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Odd-numbered addresses may water on odd dates during the same hours. MAINTENANCE WORKER I
The Village of Sugar Grove has officially taken second place in the prestigious "Best of the Best" Tap Water Taste Test at the American Water Works Association (AWWA) ACE26 conference in Washington, D.C. The national runner-up finish establishes Sugar Grove as home to some of the highest quality, best-tasting drinking water in North America. The top spot went to the City of Fredericton, New Brunswick, while third place was awarded to Vineyard, Utah “We are incredibly proud of our Public Works Team and thankful for the Leadership of our Public Works Director, Brad Merkel”, said Village of Sugar Grove President Sue Stillwell. “We value providing Sugar Grove with the best possible water, protecting our water resources, and we are all celebrating their win for the community as the stewards of the Best Tasting Water in the United States!” The Journey to the National Stage Sugar Grove's path to the national podium required winning a series of consecutive regional and state tournaments: The Regional Qualifier: First, the Sugar Grove Public Works team won the Kane County Water Association regional taste test. The State Championship: The team advanced to the Illinois Section AWWA State Finals at WATERCON 2026 in Peoria. On April 14, 2026, Sugar Grove was crowned the state champion, earning the sole right to represent Illinois nationally. The National Finals: The village competed against elite water producers from across the United States and Canada at the ACE26 conference in Washington, D.C. Rigorous Standards of Excellence A panel of independent water experts judged the competition using strict blind-taste protocols. Samples were evaluated at room temperature across three major categories: Taste: Overall flavor and crisp drinkability profile. Clarity: Total visual transparency and absence of turbidity. Odor: The absolute lack of any organic or chemical scent. To even qualify for entry, Sugar Grove had to maintain a pristine safety record, with zero state or federal drinking water violations during the previous calendar year.
