Mailbox Installation & Maintenance

The Village of Sugar Grove wants to remind residents that proper installation and maintenance of mailboxes can help reduce the risk of your mailbox being damaged during a snowstorm. While Village snow plow drivers are careful to avoid damaging mailboxes, with limited space to pile snow and hundreds of miles of roadway to plow during each snowstorm, it is difficult for drivers to completely avoid pushing snow against mailboxes.

Fall and early December are the perfect time to check your mailbox post to ensure that it is solid and sturdy in the ground prior to severe winter weather. Once the ground is frozen, it is almost impossible to make the needed repairs to sturdy your mailbox. Here are some tips to ensure your mailbox is ready for the snow this winter season.

  • Check that your mailbox post is straight and that the box is not leaning over the curb.
  • Replace damaged or rotting posts.
  • Check the connection point between the box and the post to ensure that the box is securely fastened.
