Village Proclaims May Building Safety Month

On Tuesday, April 17, 2022, the Village Board proclaimed May 2022 Building Safety Month in the Village of Sugar Grove. Building Safety Month is sponsored by the International Code Council to remind the public about the critical role of our communities’ largely unknown protectors of public safety––our local code officials––who assure us of safe, efficient and livable buildings that are essential to America’s prosperity.

Building codes and the officials who enforce them make our families and communities safer and stronger. Homes and buildings that are built in compliance with building safety codes result in resilient structures that minimize the risks of death, injury and property damage. In the wake of a disastrous hurricane season, rampant wildfires and devastating earthquakes, building safety is even more important. Building safety affects everyone, and modern, updated building codes save lives.

The theme for Building Safety Month 2022, “Safety for All: Building Codes in Action,” reinforces the need for the adoption of modern, regularly-updated building codes, and helps individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures.

In observance of Building Safety Month, Americans are asked to consider the commitment to improve building safety and economic investment at home and in the community, and to acknowledge the essential service provided to all of us by local and state building departments, fire prevention bureaus and federal agencies in protecting lives and property.
