For the 27th year, the Village of Sugar Grove has been named a Tree City USA community in recognition of its commitment to community forestry. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
Sugar Grove is committed to preserving the many natural resources that residents have come to appreciate. The Village works to preserve, enhance, and expand its natural features through projects such as the 50/50 parkway replacement program and the tree preservation program instituted for new development. Additionally the Village continues to train its professional staff on forestry programs, while utilizing quality professional services, and making educated management decisions.
Sugar Grove achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, the Village Board proclaimed April 23, 2021 as Arbor Day in the Village of Sugar Grove. Arbor Day is a nationally celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care.
