Starting September 22, 2020, petitions for candidates seeking election to the Sugar Grove Village Board in the April 6, 2021 Consolidated Election may be circulated. Three (3) Trustee positions and the position of President will be on the ballot. All are four (4) year terms, serving the community at-large.
Sugar Grove elections are partisan, meaning that a candidate can choose to run as a party affiliated candidate or an independent candidate. Historically Sugar Grove candidates choose to run as an independent. All Sugar Grove Trustees are elected At-Large. At-Large elected officials represent the entire community with no elected official representing a specific area or ward.
To qualify as a candidate, applicants must be a qualified elector (registered to vote) of the Village of Sugar Grove and have resided within the corporate limits of the Village for at least one year preceding the Consolidated Election. Illinois law imposes other qualifications to be eligible to submit a petition for candidacy and to serve as an elected official of the Village of Sugar Grove. Candidates should review Illinois law and other related codes to determine whether they meet the required qualifications. Compliance with the applicable law in having the petitions for candidacy signed and submitting them along with other required documents is the sole responsibility of the candidate.
